HELPERS

Would like to help out but unable to commit to a committee post?  A number of parents already regularly help out in various ways for which the committee is extremely grateful.  If any CWA parents, guardians, supporters would like organize an occasional event, such as busking, please contact Martin.  The role of the organizer is to coordinate all the activities that need to happen to support an individual event: ie use a check list and phone the people that have agreed to move kit, do the advertising etc.

COMMITTEE MEMBERS

Rachel Soper, SPECTRUM MD, is moving on. She has made a significant contribution over the many years she has been associated with CWA and if you would like to contribute to her collection please pass money onto a committee member or MD.   A presentation will be made to Rachel at the Summer Concert on Saturday 3rd July 2010.

Chris Elson is getting married on 26 June and a collection will also be made for him. If you would like to contribute to his gift please pass your contribution to a committee member or MD.  As Chris will be on his honeymoon on 3 Jul, his presentation will probably be on 19 June.

The Treasurer, Andrew Ford stood down at the AGM although he still intends to help at future events.  The committee thanked him on behalf of the association for all his hard work over the last 4 years.

Welcome to 3 new members of the committee/helpers:

Maura Poole - Treasurer

Elinor Anderson - Uniform holder.

Tessa Schofield - Child Welfare Officer

All other members of the committee were ratified for another year.

Volunteers are still needed two posts:

  • Fundraiser
  • Events Coordinator

Fundraiser – Over the years fundraising has been vital to maintaining the association. This post can take up as much or as little time as you have.  Also it could be carried out by a group of volunteers.  If you are interested, please contact Martin Edmundson.

Events Coordinator – as the name suggests this post is to co-ordinate the various activities that the association wants to do.  It does not mean that you have to do everything yourself but coordinate an army of willing volunteers. If you are interested, please contact Martin Edmundson.

REHEARSALS

The MDs appreciate that everyone is very busy and cannot always make every rehearsal, however if you can’t please let your MD know by email in advance so that they can plan the session accordingly.  Contact emails below - many thanks

SPECTRUM TO YCB POLICY

The Spectrum and YCB MDs will jointly decide when a player is ready to move up to YCB from SPECTRUM.  Once selected, it is the normal procedure for a player to attend both SPECTRUM and YCB until they have passed Grade 4 and are in school Year 10 or above.  Any changes from this procedure must be discussed with and agreed with the MDs in the first instance.

SECOND INSTRUMENT.

Players are also strongly encouraged to take up another instrument if they are interested and CWA can support this with regard to hiring these instruments.

EXAMS

As a reminder, and for new members, the system used at CWA is:

a)  player’s teacher decides they are ready to take an exam.

b)  players can be entered through the Band.  An email asking for entries will be issued by Roshan when exams are due.

c)  the parent will need to find a piano accompanist but there are contacts with other teachers that can do this.

Exams (practical and theory) are held 3 times a year - Autumn, Winter and Summer.  If you are not sure if you/you child is ready, please talk to their music teacher.

PROPOSED RESIDENTIAL AT BRAESIDE EDUCATION CENTRE

CWA is considering running a Residential at Braeside Education Centre (Devizies) during this year’s October Half Term (25-27 Oct).  This fun event will be aimed primarily at Training and Spectrum Band children and it is envisaged to include:

  • Ensemble music making
  • Section rehearsals
  • Masterclasses
  • Mini-concert for parents/carers on Wednesday afternoon
  • Fun activities in the Braeside grounds (weather permitting)
  • Quizzes, indoor games etc

Costs will be subsidised by the Association and will be a maximum of £50 per child, which will include 2 nights accommodation and all meals.

We now need to judge how much support there would be for such an event (it probably needs a minimum of approx 20 children to make it worthwhile).

Please therefore return the slip, sent out in a separate email, in the next 2 weeks, to Andy Titcomb, Training Band Director. familytitcomb@dsl.pipex.com   Mobile: 0775 3838909
